Regional Forums: Part 3 (and some housekeeping)

A chairde,

First thing to mention is that I’ll be on Annual Leave from tomorrow until July 11th, so there’ll be no newsletter for a couple of weeks and a delay in getting back to email queries. If you have an urgent request, including an outstanding invoice/reimbursement, please send it to me by tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, I’ll get back to everything on my return.

A final reminder also of the first volunteer meeting for this year’s Ard Fheis, which will take place on Tuesday, July 2nd at 18:00. You can join the session via THIS LINK.

The 3rd of our Regional Forums will take place this Saturday, for Galway and Connacht. As with each forum, there will be reflection and discussion on CATU’s progress regionally as well as training on this year’s Ard Fheis, including how to draft and submit motions. There will also be more specific discussion on Gaeltacht housing and touristification - and how we respond as a union.

Where? Áras na nGael, 45 Dominick St. Lower, Galway, H91 E1NY
When? This Saturday, June 29th - 13:00 - 17:00

If you have any questions about this event, please contact our Connacht Organiser, Jane - [email protected]

Last weekend’s Dublin and Leinster forum was very successful, with a strong attendance and many branches from across the region represented on the day.

As well as strategising for the months ahead, members took time to reflect upon and celebrate some hard-fought wins.

The 4th and final forum, for Cork and Munster, will take place on July 20th. More details on that to follow soon - if you’d like to be involved or have any questions please contact our Munster Organiser, Michael - [email protected]

After a year of hard work and local organising, The Davitt House Committee and CATU Dublin 12 can celebrate a number of wins.

Attic insulation has started and is nearly done for all residents. Ventilation was installed and front doors replaced in some homes. Double glazed windows are set to be installed in all homes. This in addition to repairs, painting, new gutters and anti-slip stairs, new fobs for local emergency services, landscaping work, and more.

None of this work would have been done without residents coming together and organising. This is the power of a tenants union.

Whilst there is more work to be done and pressure must be kept up on Dublin City Council, the Davitt House Committee can be rightly proud of all they’ve achieved already.

Let’s have it for Davitt 👏

Lastly, a reminder of tomorrow evening’s landlord research training - CATU’s eviction database working group has been collecting information about illegal evictions and those responsible for carrying them out, and in conjunction with the Liberties-Rialto branch, tomorrow’s session will present on how these research tools can be used across the board.

The training will start at 18:00 in St Andrew’s Community Centre, 468 South Circular Road, Dublin 8. Come along and get snooping!
