Regional Forum pt.4, protest tonight & more

A chairde,

There is an important protest taking place tonight at Portobello Plaza in Dublin 8, where disgraceful fencing has been placed as a form of hostile architecture to prevent homeless people from camping. This is impacting refugees and Irish homeless people alike - but as we’ve seen in recent days, refugees in particular are being targeted with extreme violence by far-right thugs all over the city.

The demands of the protest are clear:

- Take down the fences
- No more hostile architecture
- Stop evicting refugees and Irish homeless people from the canal

In a country with incredible levels of vacancy and dereliction, the current state of affairs is a political choice - let’s demand better from Government.

The protest will start at 19:00 at Portobello Plaza.

The 4th and final Regional Forums will take place this Saturday, covering Cork and the Munster region. Branches will be coming together from across Munster to share insights and experiences and to help strengthen collaboration. There will also be a workshop on community organising and training for the upcoming National Ard Fheis followed by a social.

Whether you're a new member or a seasoned veteran there will be something to learn about or to pass on your knowledge to your fellow members

Where? South Parish Community Centre, Sawmill Street, Cork, T12 CX32
When? This Saturday, July 20th - 12:00 - 16:30

You can register for attendance HERE.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact our Munster Organiser, Michael - [email protected]

On Saturday, the IPSC is hosting its latest National Demonstration for Palestine and, as always, we will have a bloc on the day. We’re also planning to do some leafleting - if you’d like to help out with this, drop me a message.

For the demo itself, we will be meeting at 13:00 outside the Mandate Trade Union offices, just opposite the Gate Theatre on Parnell Square.

CATU Belfast’s monthly branch meeting is taking place this evening in Redeemer Central. This month, they are also holding an EGM to discuss the upcoming national Ard Fheis in September.

All branch members - old and new - are encouraged to come along to review and discuss the plans for CATU nationally and take part in shaping the future of our union.

In addition to this, there’ll be reflections on the recent Ulster Regional Forum and looking at continuing to build on the links between branches across Ulster.

As always, there'll be tea and coffee available. If you've never been to a meeting before, they're a great chance to meet fellow CATU members and if you're unsure of where to go, drop [email protected] or @catubelfast on Instagram.

CATU Phibsboro-Glasnevin will also be hosting their local AGM on Monday, July 22nd in Casa Mexico at 18:00. They’ll be reflecting on the past 12 months of local organising and setting out an agenda for the 12 months ahead, as well as electing National reps and discussing motion submission for the upcoming Ard Fheis.

If you have any questions, please drop the branch a line at [email protected]
