There’ll be a debrief on last year’s national campaigns, a chance to hear from individual members about the work they’ve been doing with their branches, and a discussion on what’s next for the group.

Voting for reps will also take place for the National Campaigns steering committee, if you’d be interested in becoming a rep please fill out the below form by the end of today.

The highly acclaimed Rent Strike documentary is being screened TONIGHT (Thursday) in Tailor’s Hall, Dublin.

The documentary tells the incredible story of how 100,000 tenants across Ireland in the 1970s refused to accept the unfair conditions and extortionate rents they were subjected to. They took on the State together - and won.

Limited tickets remain available HERE. Film starts at 18:30 sharp.

We’ll also have some t-shirts and a very limited number of CATU scarves on sale!

CATU Galway had a busy and fruitful weekend.

On Saturday, they ran training workshops in conjunction with our Training Officer, Aisling, covering topics like member defence strategy, recruitment and capacity building.

That evening, the branch was well represented at a community céilí in An Cheathrú Rua organised by Gliogar as an outreach and community building event. ☘️

The next day, in those same halls, a community football day was held, organised by the DIY FAI where CATU proudly had a stall. ⚽

The branch has been going from strength to strength in recent months with a noticeable uptick in new members and activity - props to the local committee and our Connacht Organiser, Jane, for all the great work.

CATU Mountjoy-Dorset were out over the weekend and again this evening building solidarity against vulture fund Vestry's illegal eviction of a fellow member. They’ve every reason to be confident of a win, because that’s exactly what they secured last week, when a couple of other branch members finally had €3000 in stolen deposit money returned.

Community building and direct action get the goods - exemplified regularly by the D1 crew, and by our wonderful branches all over Ireland ❤️

Lastly for this week - you might be interested in an upcoming Tenants for Climate Justice forum, as part of Friends of the Earth’s Warm Homes for All campaign. It takes place online on Wednesday, November 6th at 18:00.

Whether in the private rental sector or social housing, tenants are being left out in the cold at a disproportionate rate and forced to deal with higher bills and more unhealthy, polluting fossil fuels as a result.

This event will look at how a lack of minimum energy efficiency standards in both private rental and social housing is a climate justice issue, what can be done about it, and related calls to action. It will include contributions from researchers, stakeholders and maybe yourself as they discuss how to build a campaign that tackles poor quality housing and delivers a fossil free future at the same time.
