New Post

A chairde,

We’re delighted to be hiring a new Ulster Organiser!

We want to hear from anyone who is passionate about the union’s work, and community organising more broadly.

You'll be part of our organising team and a core part of strengthening our union, building local committees and growing the movement for housing rights in Ulster. Note: This role is based in Ulster so we are seeking candidates from that region or anyone willing to re-locate.

Deadline for applications is midnight on Thursday, May 29th and you’ll find all the info you need at the link below. CVs and cover letters should be sent to [email protected]

Ulster Organiser - Hiring Info

In recent weeks, discussion has emerged from the Campaigns working group to call a National Housing Demo. This is in light of a push by the far-right in calling demos of their own and trying to make housing a far-right and anti-immigrant issue. Importantly, there hasn’t been a large scale housing demo called in a number of years and it’s time we put that right. The mandate to call a National Housing Demo falls under the Union in First motion (Belfast’s Ard Fheis motion passed in 2024). The National Committee have backed the messaging and demands at their most recent meeting on Saturday, May 10th. A provisional date of July 5th is set for the demo.

The Housing Demo Sub-Committee are inviting members to join an organising group chat ahead of the demo. Ideally, at least one representative from each branch would be there to ensure the flow of communication (but more are welcome). Please see the invite link and minutes from the initial meeting attached below:

Last Saturday, CATU Belfast took the streets, joined by community groups from across the city to stand against evictions and defend our members being threatened with homelessness by the NI Housing Executive. We will never accept the Housing Executive making tenants homeless to plaster over the cracks of privatisation and austerity.

For the first time in decades, Dublin City Council tenants collectively marched on Monday’s council meeting to demand solutions to damp, mold and insulation issues rampant throughout DCC properties.

From across the city, tenants delivered petitions and letters calling for Dublin City Council's focus on these hazardous living conditions which have been directly impacting the respiratory health and mental wellbeing of residents, especially young children, families and retired people.

This is the latest escalation of action decided by tenants who have been ignored by their landlord for too long.

More to come until demands are met.

A couple of CATU Cork members recently visited South Dakota and attended an action training camp hosted by NDN Collective, an indigenous organisation based there.

One of the attendees, Ebyn, has produced a blog post detailing the experience. You can have a read at the link below!
