New Post

A chairde,

With a brilliant National Housing Demo and Summer School both complete, our attention now turns to the 2025 CATU Ard Fheis.

This will be a particularly special occasion as we mark 5 years of organising together across the island of Ireland - more details will follow in due course but for now we can tell you that it’ll be (a) happening in November and (b) taking place i Cathair na Gaillimhe / Galway City.

The National Committee is looking for volunteers to assist in pulling together this year's Ard Fheis. If you you can spare a few hours between now and November and want to help make it our biggest and best national event yet, please join for a debrief and first planning session online, next Wednesday, September 3rd at 18:30:

Ard Fheis - 1st Planning Session

CATU D12/Inchicore is convening a meeting across branches to discuss the challenges and opportunities in organising around the constant churn of forced transfers or evictions from IPAS or other asylum seeker accommodation, particularly in light of the current political situation in the 26 counties, however they can also cover the issues in the 6 counties regarding MEARS accommodation if people wish. This is open to all members who are working on these issues, and attendance and contribution from those members who have been directly affected by these issues of forced transfers and evictions is most encouraged.

This registration form is to assess attendance numbers and ensure security. Registrants will receive a meeting link in advance of the meeting.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 9th at 19:00.

We are incredibly proud to announce that we have endorsed the CEARTA National Protest for the Irish Language and the Gaeltacht taking place at 13.30pm on Saturday, September 20th at Parnell Square in Dublin. The four key demands are Gaeltacht housing, funding, education and language rights. We will have a CATU bloc meeting in Parnell Square marching on the day and there will be buses organised from around the country. For more information, click HERE

Táimid an-bhródúil a fhógairt go bhfuil tacaíocht á tabhairt againn do CEARTA: Agóid Náisiúnta na nGael a bheidh ar siúl ag 13.30 ar an Satharn, an 20ú Meán Fómhair i gCearnóg Pharnell i mBaile Átha Cliath. Is iad na ceithre príomh-éilimh ná réiteach ar an ngéarchéim tithíochta Ghaeltachta, maoiniú, oideachas agus cearta teanga. Beidh bloc CATU againn ag Cearnóg Pharnell ag siúl ar an lá agus beidh busanna eagraithe. As part of CATU Dún Laoghaire’s Sallynoggin public housing campaign, a motion has been submitted to the council local area committee in support of the tenants’ demands, which will be voted on next Monday.

We're organising a protest outside the council offices starting at 16:00, and we're also trying to get as many people as possible to contact councillors in advance asking them to vote in favour of the motion.

We have an email template for contacting councillors about it. If you have email on your phone you should be able to use this link to autogenerate an email: https://tinyurl.com/ywnay7ek

If that doesn't work you can copy and paste from this google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aTGw8R7BfMuZpK8WvWJ5Fo_KcEiuHkO5YKK_7KeZxQY/edit?usp=sharing

It's really important to show councillors that people are paying attention and put pressure on them to vote in favour, so please take a minute to send an email

Our Dublin Regional Forum is coming up next Saturday - 12 - 4pm, Sat 6th Sept, Tailor’s Hall (Back Lane, The Liberties, D08 X2A3)

The day is split into three sections and you are welcome to drop in for the sections that suit you specifically.

The agenda is:

12 - 2pm: Member Defence Training

We would encourage all members to come to this, even if you feel you have a lot of experience. It's an opportunity to share your experience and knowledge with newer members

2 - 3pm: An interactive workshop for us to collectively brainstorm how we can improve our campaign structures in our region. We'll be talking about how local branches can communicate better, how we should work together as a region, and which people and groups should be taking responsibility for campaign work.

3 - 4pm: The same style of interactive workshop, but specifically about our public housing campaign. For this section we would really recommend any members whose branch has an active public housing campaign to come along, we need your feedback! We will discuss how the different local campaigns can work together, whether we can have a collective strategy and what the next steps over the next few months should be.

This is also a good opportunity to meet members from all over Dublin - we'll go for a pint or a soft drink in Peadar Brown’s after - hope to see you all there! ❤
