New Post

A chairde,

Join us for a flash action this evening at 18:30, assembling at the College Green end of Grafton St., Dublin 2.

This action will be taking aim at the government parties that voted to lift the eviction ban, failed to tackle rents, and failed to deliver public housing - leaving our members poorer and more at risk of homelessness.

We will be going to the 3 outgoing (26 county) government party offices to let them know what the next government needs to take action on, and demanding they come and speak to our members at an upcoming hustings being organised for November 26th (more on that later).

Bring banners, placards etc.

On Saturday, meanwhile, it’s time for our public housing campaign strategy meeting.

Over the past two years, public housing has been one of the union's most important national campaigns. Incredible work has been done on this by branches throughout the country. At our recent Ard Fheis we voted to continue this campaign for another year, so it's important to take stock of where we’re at, share what we have learned and make plans for the future.

The meeting will take place in the offices of Comhlámh on Parliament Street in Dublin 2 from 11:00-15.30 on Saturday. Lunch will be provided.

Join CATU Belfast for an anti-eviction march on Friday (tomorrow) in support of fellow member, Caitríona.

The march will assemble at 15:00 at Dunville Park and make its way to the Housing Executive’s offices on Adelaide Street.

Caitríona is being made homeless by the outrageous decision of the NIHE not to grant succession despite her living in the property as a carer for her late mother and having strong ties locally.

Rather than preventing homelessness, the Housing Executive is forcing this young family out of their home and into temporary accommodation. We can not let this become the norm!

Whether private or public landlords, we can and will fight back against evictions - and stop them.

Next Tuesday, November 26th, CATU will be participating in a general election hustings at the CWU Hall, 575 North Circular Road in Dublin 1. Alongside housing, there will be discussed on the climate crisis and the ongoing Gaza genocide, with reps from Friends of the Earth and the IPSC respectively.
