CATU News - Week 18 - May Day

A chairde,

Happy International Workers’ Day to you all ❤️

For our union, the trade union movement and all those struggling against capitalism and imperialism around the world, it’s an important day to reflect on our collective revolutionary potential. We’re in the midst of some exceptionally difficult challenges but there is a long history of wins to inspire our organising now and into the future.

This evening in Dublin, the traditional May Day march will have a large Palestine Bloc. CATU members are invited to join and bring your flags, banners and voices. We’ll be assembling at 18:15 outside the Huge Lane Gallery on Parnell Square.

In Belfast, meanwhile, there are 2 May Day events coming up this weekend.

Time: 19:00 - 21:00
About: Fighting for safer and better housing for all in Belfast and beyond

May Day Parade, CATU Bloc- Saturday, May 4th 🟢
Location: Assembling outside St Anne's Cathedral
Time: 11:45am
Social Event on after behind the John Hewitt

If you have any questions on the above contact [email protected] or [email protected]

The CATU National Committee will have its next meeting in person on Saturday, May 11th in Tailor's Hall, Dublin. The meeting will be open to all members to attend as observers and we would encourage members who are available to attend to do so. Our union is a democratic one and we would like to make the governance process as transparent as possible. We would especially encourage branches who don't currently have a national rep to send a member or two. We will endeavour to reimburse travel costs for anyone coming from outside Dublin. Please fill out the following form to confirm attendance:

Lastly for this week, our Leinster Organiser, Helen, has set up a WhatsApp group for the coordination of our new support group structure which will be kicking off this month. If you’d like to be involved, the link to join can be accessed HERE.

If you’d be interested in setting up a support group in a new area, please contact Aisling on [email protected]
