National Campaigns Launch - This Saturday - Register Here

A chara,

The union’s 2023 Campaigns launch is coming up on Saturday, October 7th in Cork.

Earlier this year, you had your say as members and voted to campaign against evictions and for universally accessible, good quality public housing. Now is the time to plan and put these campaign areas into action.

As well as Eventbrite for registration, a Google Form has been developed to capture accommodation and travel requirements (including whether reimbursement is required).

You can access the Eventbrite HERE and the Google form HERE. If you’re planning to head along, please try to complete the form as soon as possible so that the necessary arrangements can be made in good time.

Our Leinster Recruitment Day is coming up tomorrow. Branches across the region will be running events throughout the day in a coordinated effort to get our message out and hopefully secure a wave of new members.

Below are details on some of the events taking place:

BALLYMUN-FINGLAS will be doing a doorknocking session around the Shangan area, starting at 1pm. Meeting point is SuperValu in Ballymun. Maps link HERE.

CABRA-STONEYBATTER will be running a stall from midday to 2pm outside McDonald’s in the Maple Centre on the Navan Road. Maps link HERE.

CRUMLIN-DRIMNAGH will be running a stall from midday to 2pm in Brickfield Park. Maps link HERE. A spokesperson for branch said: “Go Bricker, be lethal”.

DUBLIN 3 will be meeting at 1pm in Ballybough Community Centre to plan a campaign to pressure the council into being more proactive and transparent around the maintenance and renovation of Ballybough House. Maps link HERE.

MOUNTJOY-DORSET will be having a recruitment get-together at 1pm on Capel Street. Lunch afterwards is a strong possibility. Contact the branch on [email protected] for further info.

PHIBSBORO-GLASNEVIN are running a stall from 12:30 to 15:30 at the Blessington Street Basin. Members who’d be up for helping out during the day can contact the branch chairs/admins to put your name on the rota.

RATHMINES-RANELAGH will be running a stall from midday outside the Swan Leisure Centre - they’ll also be hosting a coffee morning at 11am in TwoFiftySquare (right next to the Swan) to catch up and chat about cases. Maps link HERE.

CATU CORK are also running an important event on Saturday. They’ll be assembling at Mayfield Garda Station at midday and knocking on Mayfield residents’ doors, encouraging them to join CATU and use their voice to take a stand against negligent landlords and the malicious far-right. Maps link HERE.

CATU’s Dublin South Inner City branch are ramping up with a series of doorknocking evenings - starting today at 18:30 - with a view towards a public meeting at the end of October (more info on that to follow).

Along with this evening’s doorknock, there will be further sessions on October 11th and 25th.

The branch has a new Instagram page - give it a follow and a share HERE and drop them a message for meeting points and further info.

CATU Waterford have prepared an open letter in response to the outrageous and violent illegal eviction of our members a couple of weeks ago.

In the branch’s own words, “by building a public petition, we can show local politicians, decision makers, Gardaí and dodgy landlords, that we won't stand by and continue to allow illegal evictions to happen.”

Please take a minute to sign and share the petition HERE.
